Oconbrick was recently awarded a Diamond Arrow Award in the Professional Management Review Awards 2009 with a 1st place covering the overall rating survey of brick suppliers to the construction industry. Oconbrick was the highest rated company with a mean score of 4.10 out of a possible 5.00 with respondents to the suppliers of the construction industry category judging companies across these seven attributes:
• Ability to meet orders
• Do deliveries meet promises?
• Flexibility
• Price/cost
• Quality of products
• Range of products on offer
• Responsiveness
The respondents, of which there were 117, were random national selections comprising building material retailers and representatives of construction companies – interviews with them were conducted during December 2008 and January and February 2009.
These interviews were carried out telephonically using semi-structured questionnaires. Back-checks were conducted at all stages of the fieldwork, data capture and analysis stages and all of the questionnaires were checked for input quality and completeness.
Despite the slow down in the construction market the company is confident in the opportunities two recently launched products, the Oconbrick Wide and Maxi Bricks, will afford it in the low-cost and affordable housing markets. The company also offers an online buying facility that assists homeowners to purchase quality clay bricks directly from the company. The company is presently experiencing significant market growth in large commercial developments, retirement villages and government projects.
These bricks offer large cost savings in comparison to the traditional materials that require plastering and painting. They can be used cost effectively without painting and plastering the finished bricks leaving them maintenance free for home owners.
The thermal prospects of these bricks are also excellent and promise a warmer house in winter and a much cooler home in summer. These properties effectively reduce electricity consumption which is especially important considering the scarcity and price of energy.
